Meet our Team

Kindness. Compassion. Professionalism.

  • Dr. Tara Black grew up riding horses and working cattle on ranches along the Central Coast of California. She attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and graduating with honors went on to Washington State University to complete her veterinary degree in 2012. For the first two years she worked in a busy mixed animal practice with a strong focus on equine and large animal medicine. Moving her family to the Olympic Peninsula in 2014, she became an associate veterinarian at Sequim Animal Hospital growing the equine/farm animal component of the clinic along with developing a strong passion for small animal veterinary care from simple wellness exams to complicated internal medicine cases.

Dr. Black is excited to broaden her scope of veterinary practice with offering in-home personalized companion animal services to the residents of the Olympic Peninsula. This type of veterinary care allows for dogs and cats to be seen in their natural relaxed environment, reintroducing the house call style of veterinary practice.

In her free time Dr. Black loves riding horses with her husband Pat and their four children raising them to appreciate the ranching way of life.

  • Kelsey grew up in Canada and has lived up and down the west coast. She has always gravitated towards animals and started riding horses at a young age.

This passion lead Kelsey to attend California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. There she competed at the National level on the Intercollegiate Dressage Team and studied all things animal related from Comparative Animal Nutrition to Equine Exercise Physiology and even to her senior project of analyzing Leopard Tortoise DNA! Kelsey graduated from Cal Poly with Summa Cum Laude honors, receiving her B.S. in Animal Science with a minor in Equine Science.

Kelsey is not just your average veterinary assistant. Not only does she assist Dr. Black with the animals and vet procedures, but she also handles everything from website design to administrative duties, to answering phone calls and more. She really is Dr. Black’s right hand gal!

In her free time Kelsey loves all things outdoors and enjoys hiking and camping in the PNW with her fiancé and two dogs.
